calcifer follows closely, providing warmth with his tail curled between the two of them. she rubs her hands together and ducks under an overhanging bush. 

"mm, i wonder how they're faring out here. they like warmer climates."

but they're crafty as ever. amidst the dusting of snow, a small group of them have turned belly-up in an attempt to camouflage themselves. calcifer spies a wriggling tail of orange and spits purple flame. 

the dragon flops harmlessly to the side and freya draws out a safari ball.

the combee too, like warmer climates. she'd looked at the roster before entering, but hadn't thought anything of it. and as she leans down to pick up the pokeball containing the tatsugiri, she blinks at the bee lazily drifting by. 

at first, she thinks to let it pass, but then she remembers she knows someone who might like it. 

a flamethrower from calcifer is all it takes to fell the poor gal and draw her into a ball.

a cold wind blows. she tugs the hem of her sweater cuffs over her fingers and blows gently. calcifer steps a bit closer for warmth. when they near a riverbank, she gives him a moment to drink from the cool water. 

a couple of magikarp drift lazily past his nose and he snorts smoke, sending them scattering. 

"be nice," she scolds and he hums in response.

joining his hum from a nearby bush is a charmander. calcifer turns and snorts an ember. freya laughs at his indignant antics and hums back at the fiery lizard.

enthused, reptilian hands part some of the foliage and it pokes its head out, eyes wide with curiosity. freya hums again, longer this time, and when the charmander joins in, she holds out her safari ball to it.

as soon as it went into the ball, it popped back out. now it walks stolidly behind calcifer, who seems more than content to ignore it. 

freya shakes her head and teethes off her glove. she fishes for her phone and taps past the lock screen as they walk, hopeful. 0 new messages. her email is full though. lots of reminders from tsubaki about upcoming meetings. 

maybe...he's being smart about not reaching out. 

glued to her phone as she is, she completely walks by the bronzor levitating ten feet above them.

her resolve is marked by the tucking of her phone back into her pocket. she pulls her glove back on and drops both of her hands. her new charmander bats playfully at her fingers, though she withdraws. after a moment, she signals to calcifer and says, "we're leaving."

the charmander follows dourly, falling into step behind its superiors. it casts its gaze around at the place that's been its home this past month and then it growls. freya flicks a hand out, asking calcifer to deal with it. 

but she's forced to turn around when there's a scuffle behind her. calcifer watches on with interest as the charmander picks a fight with a wandering poltchageist. 

the earth rumbles beneath them and freya's brow arches as the charmander uses ancient power to summon a volley of rocks at its target. the teapot goes spinning, innards sloshing out the sides. it sprawls over the ground and the charmander spits embers. it looks back at freya for her approval.

she clasps it on its round, reptilian head and withdraws her last safari ball.
